HDD brings scientific thinking into product development. By treating every feature or change as an experiment, it helps teams focus on outcomes rather than output—validating whether a solution actually delivers value before scaling it.

1. Getting Started
- Write hypotheses before building: use the format “We believe… will result in… and we’ll know because…”
- Add measurement hooks before launch (e.g. feature usage, retention, click rates).
- Use tools like Amplitude, Mixpanel, LaunchDarkly, or custom telemetry to capture signals.
- Start with small experiments tied to real user problems, not vague “optimisations.”
2. Scaling and Maturing
- Integrate hypothesis writing into planning, story-writing, and design reviews.
- Create a culture where “disproving the hypothesis” is seen as a valuable outcome.
- Use feature flags to run controlled rollouts and A/B tests.
- Maintain a decision log or wiki of validated and invalidated hypotheses.
- Make metrics visible to all team members—close the loop on what worked and what didn’t.
