Policy : Make Delivery Sustainable for People

Commitment to Sustainable Delivery
Sustainable delivery isn’t about going fast once-it’s about going far, together. Teams do their best work when they’re healthy, motivated, and supported. That means recognising that rest, focus, and psychological safety are essential conditions for long-term performance.

What This Means
We balance ambition with realism, and pace with pause. We avoid overloading teams, respect capacity limits, and build slack into our delivery cycles to allow for recovery, learning, and reflection. We know that speed gained at the expense of people is never sustainable.

Our commitment to sustainable delivery is built on:

  • Pace That Respects People – We plan with realistic expectations and avoid artificial urgency that leads to burnout or quality compromises.
  • Capacity-Led Planning – We prioritise based on actual team capacity, not idealised throughput or aspirational commitments.
  • Slack Time is Sacred – We intentionally leave space for learning, reflection, technical improvement, and rest-not just delivery.
  • Boundaries Are Respected – We honour working hours, discourage weekend or late-night work, and normalise saying “no” when necessary.
  • Sustainable Metrics Over Short-Term Pressure – We measure performance holistically-factoring in team health, quality, and outcomes, not just speed.

Why This Matters
Unsustainable delivery practices lead to burnout, attrition, quality issues, and disengagement. When teams feel valued and supported, they’re more creative, collaborative, and resilient. Sustainable delivery protects not only individual wellbeing, but also long-term business success.

Our Expectation
All teams and leaders must plan, operate, and deliver in ways that protect team health. This includes actively managing workload, challenging unsustainable demands, and modelling healthy delivery behaviours.

To support this policy, we will provide practices for capacity planning, team health checks, and mechanisms to monitor and support wellbeing. By making delivery sustainable for people, we enable Better Value Sooner Safer and Happier - creating environments where teams thrive and deliver exceptional results over the long term.
